How did I become a Health Coach?
Here is a little bit about my life and how I got here. I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and food and weight were always a topic of conversation in my home. The diet culture was real! I probably was on my first diet around the age of 13. I never really liked my body even though looking back I was very “normal” and strong. I was a dancer and horseback rider, which both create strong bodies and are both body aware sports.
After college I pretty much started working right away and was in the service industry for a little bit, then became a realtor and worked 7 days a week. After 2008’s economic crash I changed careers and became a dog trainer and ended up having a large dog training company in Chicago. As all entrepreneurs know, you pretty much work 7 days a week with not many free days. And I LOVED the non-stop lifestyle.
Then one day, out of nowhere, I felt like I had been hit by a truck with exhaustion. It was hard to get out of bed some days. I had debilitating stomach pains to where I was hospitalized but was never given a real diagnosis. It was also the polar vortex winter in Chicago where we had -37 degrees for a week.
Andrew and I were newly engaged and we decided to move to Los Angeles! He was from LA and I was born here and visited often, and the weather was a big draw. I sold my business, AnimalSense, and we packed the car up with our dogs and drove out west.
I took about a year off and worked with natural paths, acupuncturists, herbalists and nutritionists. It took about 2 years to rebalance my body. It was this journey that made me realize that I wanted to help others find balance as well. I enrolled in IIN when I was pregnant with Enzo and not too long after Enzo was born, I was pregnant with Elio, they are 19 months apart. It has taken me some time to come out of the baby fog, but I can see the light!
This brings me to today! Today I am a woman, mother, friend, daughter who is trying to juggle everything those roles ask of me. I am focused on making sure my well is full before I can help others. I am here to help others find their path to wellness and happiness. I am here to break down the barriers that healthy lifestyles are only for the skinny or wealthy. I am here to make health available to all regardless of race, sex, gender, class, body type, identity, nationality or ability. I am here for YOU! Let’s start this journey together!
